14 winners of the 1st quarter are Chui Hoi-kiu, Lee Wing-lam, Li Hiu-ching, Ng Yuen-ching, Poon Wai-sum and So Wing-kiu (Dodgeball); Gao Ying-chuen and Tsang Yuet-ching (Fencing); Ip Ka-ching and Ng Pui-tin (Lawn Bowls); Lau Chiu-yee (Para Swimming-Intellectual Disability), Mak Sai-ting Adam (Swimming), Wong Hoi-tung and Wong Wan-hei (Table Tennis). Organised by the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI), title sponsored by Shine Tak Foundation, sponsored by the Sports for Hope Foundation (SFHF) and supported by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and the Hong Kong Sports Press Association (HKSPA), the 1st quarter awards presentation ceremony of the Outstanding Junior Athletes Awards (OJAA) 2024 was held today to acknowledge the achievements of 23 young athletes.
Officiating guests and awards presenters included Mr Lam Kwok-hing MH JP Honorary Consul, Executive Vice Chairman, Mrs Xiao He Yuan-feng, Amy, Vice Chairlady, Dr Charlie Ip, Vice Chairman, Mr Ip Moon-tong MH, Director, Ms Wen Xiao-yan, Current Advisor of Hong Kong Shine Tak Foundation; Ms Marie Lee, Founder of SFHF; Mr Wong Po-kee MH, Honorary Deputy Secretary General of the SF&OC; Mr Raymond Chiu, Chairman of HKSPA and Mr Tony Choi MH, Chief Executive of the HKSI.
14 Awardees and Nine Athletes Received Certificate of Appreciation and Merit Respectively
A total of 14 junior athletes from six sports were crowned the OJAA title in the 1st quarter.
The awardees include Women’s U21 Multi Ball-style Dodgeball Team formed by Chui Hoi-kiu, Lee Wing-lam, Li Hiu-ching, Ng Yuen-ching, Poon Wai-sum and So Wing-kiu (Dodgeball); Gao Ying-chuen and Tsang Yuet-ching (Fencing); Ip Ka-ching and Ng Pui-tin (Lawn Bowls); Lau Chiu-yee (Para Swimming - Intellectual Disability); Mak Sai-ting Adam (Swimming); Wong Hoi-tung and Wong Wan-hei (Table Tennis).
Chui Hoi-kiu|Gold Medal, U21 Woman, Asian Dodgeball Championship 2024 “This award-winning experience is not only an affirmation and recognition of the training effort of my teammates and me, but also a motivation for our future training.” Lee Wing-lam|Gold Medal, U21 Woman, Asian Dodgeball Championship 2024 “I am delighted to receive the award and very grateful to have my teammates being with me. Also, a big thank you to our coach, without him there would be no us.” Li Hiu-ching|Gold Medal, U21 Woman, Asian Dodgeball Championship 2024 “I would like to thank my teammates. From the beginning of unfamiliarity of each other to the later tacit understanding, every step was not easy. There were many difficulties, but fortunately, everyone has chosen to stick to our faith in sport.” Ng Yuen-ching|Gold Medal, U21 Woman, Asian Dodgeball Championship 2024 “The award signifies the recognition of dodgeball sport in Hong Kong and an affirmation of my efforts and my choice. It strengthens my determination in the pursuit of sporting excellence.” Poon Wai-sum|Gold Medal, U21 Woman, Asian Dodgeball Championship 2024 “I'm so grateful for this award which has given me motivation to continue my sports career.” So Wing-kiu|Gold Medal, U21 Woman, Asian Dodgeball Championship 2024 “This award is of great significance to our team and the entire Hong Kong dodgeball community. This is the first time for dodgeball athletes to participate in the award. Thank you for your support and recognition.” Gao Ying-chuen|Gold Medal, Men's Epee Cadet Individual, Asian Junior & Cadet Fencing Championships 2024 “The award is important to me. It motivates me to continue to strive for greater achievements for myself and the team.” Tsang Yuet-ching|Bronze Medal, Women's Sabre Cadet Individual, Asian Junior & Cadet Fencing Championships 2024 “Thank you so much for National Sports Association’s nomination, I am also grateful to my coaches and family for their guidance and support. They back me up. I will keep pursuing my dreams and never give up.” Ip Ka-ching|Silver Medal, Boy’s Singles Event, 13th U25 Asian Lawn Bowls Championship 2024 “This is my great honour to receive this award sponsored by the Shine Tak Foundation. I will strive for more participation in international competitions and achieve good results, so as to promote lawn bowls to more people.” Ng Pui-tin|Silver Medal, Girl’s Singles Event, 13th U25 Asian Lawn Bowls Championship 2024 “The award is not only a recognition of my personal achievements, but also an acknowledgement of the dedicated training and efforts put in by the coaching team of the Lawn Bowls Association of Hong Kong, China over the past years.” Lau Chiu-yee|Bronze Medal, Women’s 200m Butterfly – Multi-Disability Youth Group, Citi Para Swimming World Series Lignano Sabbiadoro 2024 “My sincere gratitude to the coaches for their patience and guidance over the past year, which enabled me to achieve my personal best result in overseas competition. My swimming skill was also improved by leaps and bounds. I hope to have breakthrough in the future.” Mak Sai-ting Adam|Gold Medal, Boys’ 15-17 100m Breaststroke, 11th Asian Age Group Swimming Championships “I must express my gratitude to the HKSI, my coaches, teammates, and parents. Their support has been invaluable throughout my swimming journey. Training with my teammates has pushed me to my limits. Their strength, encouragement, and shared love of the sport have propelled me forward.” Wong Hoi-tung|Gold Medal, U19 Mixed Doubles, WTT Youth Contender Tunis 2024 “I feel very deeply about being awarded the Outstanding Junior Athlete this time. I hope to achieve better results in future competitions.” Wong Wan-hei|Gold Medal, U19 Mixed Doubles, WTT Youth Contender Tunis 2024 “Thanks to the organiser and Hong Kong, China Table Tennis Association for their encouragement and recognition. Furthermore, I would like to thank the coaches of each team over the years for their enthusiasm and dedication, and my family for their support. I will do my best to achieve the best results and realise my childhood Olympic dream.” |
In addition, Chan Tsz-ming (Diving) was awarded the Certificate of Merit for this quarter in recognition of her hard work and sporting performance.

The OJAA recognises the achievements of outstanding local junior athletes under the age of 19 on a quarterly basis. Each winner is presented with a cash prize of HK$5,000, a sports voucher worth HK$2,500 and a certificate. For teams, they will receive a cash award of HK$20,000, a sport voucher worth HK$10,000 and certificates.
Being the Government’s designated organisation to provide the high-performance training system for eligible sports, the HKSI is committed to providing an environment in which sports talent can be identified, nurtured, and developed to pursue excellence in the international sporting arena and to inspire potential athletes to pursue a full-time sports career.
