Athlete Education & Personal Development Support
The HKSI – as the delivery agent for high-performance training for Hong Kong's elite athletes – recognises the importance of the whole-person development approach to athlete development and offers athletes educational and career planning services to cater to their different needs at various stages of their sporting careers.
Through the Athlete Education & Personal Development Support Programme, athletes can access a number of tailor-made programmes. The educational support aims to provide assistance and resources to athletes in managing their academic pursuits alongside their athletic training, including academic advising, study skill development, tutoring services, and access to educational resources. Athletes are also eligible to apply for grants to cover tuition fees and receive a subsistence allowance through the Hong Kong Athletes Fund. The HKSI also works closely with educational institutions to facilitate a conducive learning environment for athletes, ensuring they receive the necessary support and guidance to excel in both their sport and academic endeavors.
In addition to educational support, the HKSI also provides assistance in athletes' vocational, social and personal development, as well as their transition from competition to a second career. Athletes can benefit from training opportunities to enhance life skills and participate in exchanges with counterparts from mainland China and other countries to gain knowledge of different sports systems.
The Elite Athletes Performance Recognition Scheme, established in 2015 under the Hong Kong Athletes Fund, supports athletes in pursuing a second career after retiring from high-level sporting competitions. These initiatives reflect the HKSI's commitment to the holistic development of athletes, ensuring they receive the necessary support to excel not only in their sporting pursuits but also in their education, vocational development, and transition to a fulfilling second career.
