Direct Financial Support to Athletes
Since 2007-08, enhanced direct financial support to athletes has been launched, with increased funding from the Government. This is to provide elite athletes with a more financially stable environment to undergo training and compete in Major Games. From 2019-20 onwards, enhanced resources have also been allocated from the Government to support athletes with disabilities.
There are five funding schemes for the support to elite athletes:
The ETG is provided to elite athletes of Tier A sports and sports supported under the Individual Athletes Support Scheme (IASS).
The SAG is provided to elite athletes of other sports which are not supported under Tier A sports or IASS.
3. Elite Training Grant for Athletes with Disabilities (ETGD)
The ETGD is provided to elite para athletes of Tier A and Tier B sports, and sports supported under the IASS.
4. Sports Aid Grant for Athletes with Disabilities (SAGD)
The SAGD is provided to elite para athletes of other sports which are not supported under Tier A and Tier B sports, and IASS.
5. Individual Athletes Support Scheme (IASS)
Athletes of Olympic/Asian Games or Paralympic/Asian Para Games Sports, who are not supported under Tier A sports but meet the specified funding criteria, will be provided with a programme funding via their respective National Sports Associations (NSAs) to support their additional elite training needs.
