Organised by the HKSI, title sponsored by Shine Tak Foundation, sponsored by the Sports for Hope Foundation (SFHF) and supported by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and the Hong Kong Sports Press Association (HKSPA), the 3rd quarter awards presentation ceremony of the Outstanding Junior Athletes Awards (OJAA) 2023 was held today to acknowledge the achievements of 59 athletes and the number of OJAA recipients broke seven-year record.
Officiating guests and awards presenters included Mrs Christy Tung JP, Chairlady of Hong Kong Shine Tak Foundation; Mr Ricky Cheng MH, Permanent Honorary President and Executive Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Shine Tak Foundation; Dr Charlie Ip, Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Shine Tak Foundation, and Mr Jhonny Leung Huang, Director of Hong Kong Shine Tak Foundation; Dr David Mong, Vice-President of the SF&OC; Mr Raymond Chiu, Chairman of HKSPA; Ms Faye Chui, Vice-Chairman of the HKSPA; Miss Marie-Christine Lee, Founder of the Sports for Hope Foundation and Mr Tony Choi MH, Chief Executive of the HKSI.
34 Q3 Awardees and 25 Athletes Received Certificate of Appreciation and Merit
A total of 34 junior athletes from 15 sports were crowned the OJAA title in the 3rd quarter. They are Li Langyi Ryan and Wong Kwan-chun (Billiard Sports), Sophie Han and Arianna Lau (Golf), Tsang Pak-yin (Karatedo), Chan Hugo Zhi-tao (Mountaineering), Ng Cheuk-yan (HKSAPD – Swimming), Pang Wing-ka (HKSAPD – Table Tennis), Mak Hiu-tung Tiffany and Emily Grace Polson (Sailing), Tsang Sin-ying (Shuttlecock), Ariel Guo and Lam Ching-yan (Skating), Mak Sai-ting Adam (Swimming), Law Pui-yi and Wong Ching-nam Clare (Taekwondo), Chan Baldwin Ho-wah and Yiu Kwan-to (Table Tennis), Hui Lap-hang Alex and Tam Sin-hang (Tennis), Leung Wui-chi, Wong Chun-ming, Yuen Cheuk-hin Amen and Lam Ka-yiu (Tenpin Bowling), Chan Hoi-ching, Ho Ching-hin, Susie Huang, Lee Suet-ying, Lee Tin-lok, Lei Wang-chun, Lo On-hang, Ngan Ka-wing, Ting Kin-sing Kinson and Tsang Cho-kiu (Wushu).

Training with the Hong Kong swimming team has been challenging, but witnessing my teammates' determination has inspired me to persevere.” Chan Hugo Zhi-tao|6th , Youth B Male - Computed Combined, 2023 IFSC Climbing Youth World Championships “The award is a recognition and gives me drive. We have to be determined and continues to take on challenges in order to excel.” Law Pui-yi|Bronze Medal, Women's Taekwondo Kyorugi (-148cm), 5th Asian Cadet Taekwondo Championships “I wish to thank every coach and my family with the award for their nurture and support. The award gives me confidence and motivates me to aim higher.” Tsang Sin-ying|Silver, Youth Mixed Doubles, 1st Asian & Asian Youth Shuttlecock Championships Hong Kong 2023 “My sincere thanks to my coach for his trust, care, as well as training and competition opportunities offered to make me shine at the competitions.” Pang Wing-ka|Silver, Women's Singles TT6, ITTF Thailand Para Open 2023 “This is an important moment to me. My effort was paid off and being recognised. I am proud of myself.” Lam Ka-yiu|Bronze, Boys Team of 4, 22nd Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships “The award strengthens my confidence and the highs and lows in the sport journey grow me up.” Leung Wui-chi|Bronze, Boys Team of 4, 22nd Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships “I am delighted to receive the title again and will strive to achieve better results.” Wong Chun-ming|Bronze, Boys Team of 4, 22nd Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships “My teammates and coaches’ effort and inspiration make me shine at Asia arena.” Yuen Cheuk-hin Amen|Bronze, Boys Team of 4, 22nd Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships “Appreciation to my coach, National Sports Association and my family for their support which has helped me to grow and improve.” |
In addition, six athletes were awarded the Certificate of Merit for this quarter, including To Tsz-yuet and Tong Chung-yim Jason (Dance Sport), Chong Wynn Fabiola and Yang Young Tsz-ling (Equestrian), Lee Ngai-yi (Karatedo) and Li Yuet-yi (Roller Sport), in recognition of their hard work.
19 athletes were awarded the Certificate of Appreciation, including Chan Yat-lok and Jia Wai-yin (Athletics), Lam Tsz-to (Badminton), Chan Yin-lam Sevina (Roller Sport), Fan Hei-wun (Shuttlecock), Cheuk Lok-yi Daphane, Cheung Hoi-yan, Chong Hei-ching, Chong Yi-yan, Fung Tin-yan, Cyrene Hui, Lai Wai-yuen, Lau Hoi-wun, Lau Shun-yan, Loo Yan-lam, Pang Tsz-wai, So Chin-nga, Yeung Chun-yan and Wong Cheuk-ling (Handball).
The OJAA recognises the achievements of outstanding local junior athletes under the age of 19 on a quarterly basis. Each winner is presented with a cash prize of HK$5,000, a sports voucher worth HK$2,500 and a certificate. For teams, they will receive a cash award of HK$20,000, a sport voucher worth HK$10,000 and certificates.
Being the Government’s designated organisation to provide the high-performance training system for eligible sports, the HKSI is committed to providing an environment in which sports talent can be identified, nurtured, and developed to pursue excellence in the international sporting arena and to inspire potential athletes to pursue a full-time sports career.
