HKSI Chairman Congratulates HK Delegation for the Third Medal
Dr Lam Tai-fai SBS JP, Chairman of the HKSI, congratulates swimmer Siobhan Haughey again with excitement for bagging two silver medals in three days, making history for being the first Hong Kong athlete to win two medals in the Olympic Games. Her impressive achievement and perseverance not only inspire her counterparts for fighting hard in the Olympic Games, but also make Hong Kong proud.
Subsequent to her silver medal in the women’s 200m freestyle event, Haughey progressed smoothly to the finals of the 100m freestyle event by breaking Asian records one after the other. Eventually she finished in second place, bringing home a total of two silver medals so far. Although the Olympic Games is only halfway through, the Hong Kong Delegation has kept pouring in good news, together with fencer Cheung Ka-long’s gold in the men’s foil individual event, Hong Kong has already attained three medals. These medals have a great significance to the sports sector, the HKSI and even Hong Kong as a whole. The HKSI hopes that the Delegation will deliver more good news in the remaining matches, and the public will continue to support Hong Kong athletes through various channels and cheer for them!
On the other hand, badminton mixed doubles duo Tang Chun-man and Tse Ying-suet historically reached the semi-finals. Although losing to the higher-ranked home team Japan, they performed their best throughout the match, demonstrating their never-give-up spirit. This is also the first time that Hong Kong has won fourth place in an Olympic badminton event. It is worthy of the public's applause and pride for them.
The HKSI will, as usual, continue to effectively use the Government resources to lead local elite sports development and work closely with the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and the National Sports Associations to bring local elite sports to a new height. Last but not least, the HKSI sincerely hopes that the Government could inject additional resources into local sports development.
