HKSI Chairman Congratulates HK Delegation for the First Gold
The Chairman of the HKSI, Dr Lam Tai-fai SBS JP, congratulates fencer Cheung Ka-long and the fencing team for winning a gold medal in the men’s foil individual at the Tokyo Olympic Games. This is also the first gold medal since the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region 24 years ago. This long-awaited gold medal has a significant meaning to the Hong Kong fencing sector, the HKSI, the sports sector and Hong Kong.
He has demonstrated his budding talent since his young age. He became the Asian youth champion, the World junior champion and a silver medal from the Asian Championship through the years before progressing to the top of the world stage. This piece of gold medal demonstrates Hong Kong fencers' ability to compete with the world fencing powerhouses.
The HKSI will, as usual, continue to effectively use the Government resources to lead the local elite sports development and work closely with the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and the National Sports Associations to bring local elite sports to a new height. Last but not least, the HKSI sincerely hopes that the Government could inject additional resources into local sports development.
