HKSI Chairman Congratulates HK Delegation for the First Silver Medal and Roots for Athletes’ Quest for More Medals at Tomorrow’s Paralympic Games
Dr Lam Tai-fai SBS JP, Chairman of the HKSI, congratulated Hong Kong Delegation on winning the first silver medal for Hong Kong in the boccia event. Together with the previous bronze medal, the boccia team attained 1 silver 1 bronze in total. Hong Kong has so far won 1 silver and 2 bronze medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
The Paralympic Games is clicking its clock for the final two days of the competitions. Two boccia teams and two badminton players continued their medal quest for Hong Kong today. After winning a bronze medal in the boccia mixed BC4 individual event, Leung Yuk-wing joined teammates Lau Wai-yan and Wong Kwan-hang to compete in the mixed BC4 pairs event today. They defeated Portugal 4:2 in the semi-final and marched into the gold medal match. Although they eventually lost 2:3 to world number one Slovakia to settle for a silver, they already achieved the best result, the first silver medal, for Hong Kong in this year’s Paralympic Games. Five-time Paralympic veteran Leung Yuk-wing ended the Games with 1 silver and 1 bronze. The silver medal is also his sixth Paralympic medal!
In addition, Ho Yuen-kei, Liu Wing-tung and Tse Tak-wah competed in the boccia mixed BC3 pairs event today. Although they lost in the bronze medal match and finally finished in the fourth place, each of them demonstrated their unparalleled hard work and fighting spirit when facing strong opponents. They deserved the applause from Hong Kong people.
Dr Lam highly praised all athletes who participated in this year's Paralympic Games, saying that each of them not only overcame their own disabilities, but also prepared for the Games under the pandemic, which made it even more difficult. However, all athletes still performed at a high level and showcased their never-give-up spirit and determination. It was truly commendable and admirable. Special applause to Leung Yuk-wing who had participate in the Paralympic Games, the highest level sporting arena, for five times, and continued to bring medals to Hong Kong. His fighting spirit, perseverance and psychological qualities were really awe-inspiring.
Tomorrow, which is the closing day of the Games, the Hong Kong team will compete in two badminton events. Chu Man-kai and Chan Ho-yuen will be battling for gold and bronze medals respectively. May members of the public continue to root for them!
