Keep Women’s Rugby Sevens Fighting in 2016
By Christy Cheng - Women’s Rugby Sevens Athlete
From last year’s Olympics Qualifier in Hong Kong and Japan to Olympic Repechage in Dublin, it was a crazy ride. The team is disappointed about the outcome and as tough as it is to accept our dream to Rio is over, life must go on.
We decided to have a 2-week off and now move on to our next target-Asian Sevens Series 2016.
The series includes 3 legs this year: Hong Kong (3-4 September), Korea (24-25 September) and Sri Lanka 15-16 October).
After the break, the team has started cycles of tough trainings. I have to say I'm very proud of the team, our trainings get harder as the summer approaches; the temperature is high, but the team spirit is even higher.
In August 2016, we headed out for a team activity- the first ever and maybe last Beach Olympics! We were divided into 3 teams to compete in paddling, running, swimming, sand castle building.
It was such a beautiful day and a day like this really put things into perspective. The girls and I are very grateful to be able to do the things we love every day, chasing the dreams that we all shared, sweating, crying and laughing together…
It wasn't easy for us to accept the Olympic Games is over but I know we are heading towards the right direction, with dedication and hard work, we are going onwards and upwards!
