The 2019 Jockey Club Hong Kong Coaching Awards presentation ceremony was held online for the first time on the Hong Kong Sports Institute’s (HKSI) social media platforms (Facebook / YouTube) today, unveiling a list of 205 awardees. The purpose is to recognise the dedication of coaches in nurturing Hong Kong athletes to pursue outstanding sporting results at both regional and international sporting arena, and their contribution in developing sport across the community and school levels in 2019.
The nominations across several categories broke last edition’s record. The Hong Kong Coaching Committee (HKCC) received 246 nominations to compete for the 2019 Awards in seven categories, namely Coach of the Year Awards, Distinguished Services Award for Coaching, Coach Education Award, Best Team Sport Coach Award, Coaching Excellence Awards, Community Coach Recognition Awards and School Coach Recognition Awards.
Mr Tsui Ying-wai JP, Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Bryan Wong, Head of Charities (Grant Making) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club and Mr Hui Yung-chung BBS JP, Chairman of the Hong Kong Coaching Committee officiated at the Ceremony.

He said, “Hong Kong athletes achieved outstanding results on the world stage in 2019, winning over 260 medals from international competitions, namely the National Youth Games, the National Games for Persons with Disabilities, World Championships and Asian Championships. All these cannot be achieved without the tireless support and nurture from coaches throughout the years.” He also encouraged people to stay strong in the face of the pandemic. “When the going gets tough, the tough get going. The postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games are not too far from now, I wish Hong Kong teams can excel at different levels of competitions.”
Mr Bryan Wong, Head of Charities (Grant Making) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, said that The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust supports different kinds of sports projects to encourage the participation of people of different abilities, ages and backgrounds. Coaches play an important role in offering training to athletes, the education sector and the broader community, through which they inspire students and the public to cultivate a lifelong sporting habit.
