In celebration of the excellent achievements of Hong Kong athletes at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), along with the China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee (CHKPC) and the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI), organised the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Hong Kong, China Team Celebration Raceday. The Raceday recognised the remarkable achievements of the athletes and presented over HK$12.5 million in cash incentives to outstanding athletes through the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme.
Officiating guests at the ceremony included Mr Chan Kwok-ki GBS IDSM JP, Chief Secretary for Administration; Mr Michael Lee JP, Chairman of the HKJC; Mrs Jenny Fung Ma Kit-han SBS JP, President of the CHKPC; Mr Tang King-shing GBS PDSM, Chairman of the HKSI and Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges GBS JP, Chief Executive Officer of the HKJC. Members of the sports community, coaches and athletes gathered to celebrate the success.
Hong Kong athletes delivered outstanding performances at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, winning 3 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze medals. Cash incentives were awarded to 18 athletes from five sports for their exceptional efforts. Mr Tang King-shing was extremely proud of the accomplishments of Hong Kong athletes at the Paralympics. Their indomitable spirit and perseverance have been truly inspiring. The HKSI sincerely thanks the Hong Kong Government, the HKJC, the CHKPC and the sports community for their unwavering support, and hopes the society will continue to support Hong Kong athletes in achieving future brilliance.
Mr Michael Lee congratulated the Hong Kong, China team, saying: “I am deeply moved and inspired to see athletes giving their all, showcasing the unwavering spirit of Hong Kong to the world.” He added that the athletes’ achievements would inspire people of different abilities to courageously pursue their dreams and actively engage in sports and community initiatives, fostering further inclusiveness. Furthermore, he said: “The Club is delighted to present cash rewards totalling HK$12.5 million to athletes who displayed exceptional performances at the Paralympics, as a token of appreciation.”
Boccia athlete Ho Yuen-kei clinched two gold medals in the women's BC3 individual and mixed BC3 pairs events, receiving a total cash incentive of HK$3 million. "I am thrilled to have won two gold medals at the Paralympics. These achievements represent not only my personal dedication but also the hard work of my coaching team. I sincerely thank all sectors of the society, especially the Government and the HKJC, for their continuous support, which is a great encouragement to athletes," she shared.
Swimmer Chan Yui-lam won a silver medal in the women's 100m butterfly S14 event, and along with her excellent results in four other events, received over HK$1.1 million in cash incentives. "I am deeply honoured to represent Hong Kong in competition. I will continue to strive for excellence to repay the support from the Hong Kong public," she said.
The HKSI and the HKJC announced in 2023 that through the three-year Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme, cash incentives are provided to recognise Hong Kong outstanding athletes for their achievements at the Major Games. The Major Games covered by the Scheme include: the World University Games, the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, the 14th National Winter Games, the 15th National Games and the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities in 2025, etc.
