The HKSI and L’ Institut National du Sport, de l'Expertise et de la Performance (INSEP) today formalised their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening the elite sports training system.
Mr Tony Choi MH, Chief Executive of the HKSI and Mr Fabien Canu, Director General of INSEP signed the MOU, under the witness of Mr Benjamin Hubin, Deputy Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, Mr George Tsoi Kin-pan, Commissioner for Sports, Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, Hon Vincent Cheng Wing-shun MH JP, Vice-Chairman of the HKSI, and Mr Babak Amir-Tahmasseb, Director of the International Relations and Grand INSEP Network.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Hon Vincent Cheng said, “This strategic partnership with INSEP is a testament to the HKSI’s dedication to advancing sports science and athletes’ performance. By leveraging INSEP’s world-class expertise and resources, we aim to enhance the elite sports training system while contributing to the global sports community.”
Mr Fabien Canu said, “It is evident that we should formalise the collaboration between the HKSI and INSEP, noting that French coaches in Hong Kong have been doing well in supporting athletes achieve success in the international sporting arena. I do believe this MOU will help athletes better prepare for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.”
This strategic partnership focuses on key areas of cooperation, including knowledge sharing of operations and programmes, exchange in sports medicine and sports performance science, support for innovative programmes in the field of high performance and research, participation in international conferences, and cross exchanges for training camps.
During the sharing session, Head Cycling Coach Herve Dagorne hoped that cycling athletes can have access to INSEP’s training venues for cycling when travelling overseas for training or competitions, while the HKSI will provide support to French athletes when they visit Hong Kong.
Fencer Nicholas Edward Choi emphasised the importance of international collaboration, stating, “The relationship between Hong Kong and French fencers are so close and strong. We train with them every day when we travel to Europe for training or competition and definitely learn a lot from them as they all are high-level athletes.”
The signing of MOU reflects the commitment of both the HKSI and INSEP to advancing elite sports development and fostering a culture of excellence, innovation and global exchange. By combining their expertise and resources, the two institutions aim to create a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing, research and athlete development. This partnership not only strengthens the ties between Hong Kong and France but also sets a new benchmark for international collaboration in sports. Together, the HKSI and INSEP will work towards empowering athletes, enhancing coaching methodologies and driving innovation in sports science, ultimately contributing to the growth and success of the global sports community.
