HKSI Congratulates Cheung Ka-long, Doo Hoi-kem, Lee Ho-ching and Soo Wai-yam on Being Awarded Ten Outstanding Young Persons

The HKSI expresses its heartfelt congratulations to fencing athlete Cheung Ka-long, table tennis athletes Doo Hoi-kem, Lee Ho-ching and Soo Wai-yam for being awarded the “Ten Outstanding Young Persons” in the Performing Arts/Sports/Culture and Arts category.
Dr Lam Tai-fai GBS JP, Chairman of the HKSI, was excited and heartened that a total of four athletes were elected, saying, “These four elected elite athletes have remarkable achievements in their professional fields, and this recognition is well deserved. Their stories demonstrate perseverance, unremitting efforts and striving for continuous growth in pursuit of excellence, that made them role models of the young generation. It is valuable that they are willing to serve the community and make contributions to Hong Kong. They have made the HKSI and the sports community proud, and brought Hong Kong prospect and hope.”
Dr Lam added, “It is hoped that this recognition will enhance the status of Hong Kong athletes, foster the sports development of Hong Kong, cultivate sports culture, and inject positive energy into the community.”
Cheung Ka-long won gold in the men's foil individual at the Tokyo Olympic Games, becoming the first Hong Kong male athlete winning a gold medal at the Olympics, and once ranked first in the men's foil world ranking. Doo Hoi-kem, Lee Ho-ching and Soo Wai-yam brought home bronze in the table tennis women’s team event at the Tokyo Olympic Games, which was Hong Kong’s first-ever Olympic women’s team medal.
