To recognise the outstanding performance of Hong Kong athletes at the 11th Asian Para Games (APG), the Hang Seng Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme (Scheme) will present medallists with cash awards totalling HK$1,579,500. Hong Kong sent a delegation of 119 athletes to participate in 14 sports at this year’s APG which concluded today in Incheon, Korea. The team collected a total of 44 medals, comprising 10 gold, 15 silver and 19 bronze. The presentation ceremony for the APG will be held on 5 November 2014 at the Lecture Theatre of the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI). Among the medal winners, Fencer Chan Yui-chong will receive the highest individual cash incentive of HK$121,500 after winning 2 gold and 2 silver medals at the Games. The fencing team harvested 4 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals, topping all other participating sports in the Hong Kong medal tally for the highest incentives of HK$580,500 in total. Initiated by the HKSI in 1994, the Scheme has been sponsored by Hang Seng since 1996. The Scheme provides cash incentives to Hong Kong athletes who achieve outstanding performances at the Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games and the National Games. The Scheme was expanded in 2005 to include medallists at the East Asian Games and, in 2010, medallists at the Asian Games and the APG, to further support the development of local sports. Since 1996, the Scheme has given out over HK$43 million to 454 top-performing local athletes. Table of Cash Incentives Awarded to Hong Kong Medallists at the 11th APG (PDF)
