HKCC Coaches Encouraged to Renew Accreditation Card Expiring in December 2012
Under the “Hongkong Bank Foundation (HBF) Accredited Coach Renewal Scheme” (ACRS) organised by the Hong Kong Coaching Committee (HKCC), coaches whose Accreditation Card is due to expire on 31 December 2012 can submit their renewal applications to the HKCC now. To enhance the quality of coaches through active participation in the continuing coach education (CCE) activities, the ACRS was launched in 2008, under which the status of all accredited coaches would be good for four years upon completion of the Sports-General Theory (Part A) Course. During this four-year period, coaches are required to accumulate sufficient hours of CCE activities to maintain their accreditation. The accredited coaches may accumulate CCE hours through four channels - attending non sports-specific courses, seminars or workshops; serving as coaching committee member in the National Sports Associations (NSAs); teaching non Sports-Specific courses, seminars or workshops; as well as authoring books or peer-reviewed journal articles in non Sports-Specific areas. Ms Avia Chan, Coach Education Manager of the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) said, “The ACRS has been receiving positive feedback since its launch in 2008. The 4-year validity of the first batch of Coach Accreditation Cards would be expired by the end of this year. We strongly urge accredited coaches to renew their qualification now. For those coaches who have not yet accumulated sufficient hours of CCE activities, they should grab the chance to accumulate sufficient hours in the coming four months.” Two of the CCE activities that accredited coaches may consider to enrol are scheduled in October. The first seminar titled “Essentials on Team Management” will be held on 5 October. Speaker Dick Leung, squash coach of the HKSI and also the recipient of the Coach of the Year Award in junior athletes, team event category of the 2011 HBF Coaching Awards, will share his experience in nurturing junior athletes and how to maintain athletes’ performance consistency, promote their self initiatives in competitions and enhance team spirit. The second seminar is the 20th HBF Elite Coaches Seminar which will take place in Wuhan on 27-29 October. More details will be uploaded to the HKCC website shortly. Coaches who have accumulated sufficient hours of CCE activities can submit their documentations of CCE hours for the renewal process now. For non-NSAs or non-HKCC organised courses, seminars or activities, coaches can submit relevant details of the courses, seminars or activities along with the enquiry form to the HKCC through email (ceddept@hksi.org.hk) or fax (2692 1940) for verification. The Hong Kong Coach Education Programme (HKCEP) has been funded by the HBF since 1992, with a total commitment of over HK$26 million to date. Over the years, more than 80,000 coaches have benefited from the training and recognition programmes under the HKCEP. For further information of the Scheme and the two CCE activities, please visit the HKCC’s website at www.hkcoaching.com, or call the Coach Education Department on 2681-6129.
