Hang Seng Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme Offers Over HK$1 Million Cash Awards to 11th National Games Medallists
The Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) and Hang Seng Bank are pleased to announce that cash incentives totalling HK$1,050,000 will be awarded to eight Hong Kong athletes through the Hang Seng Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme for their outstanding performances at the recently concluded 11th National Games. Between them, the athletes won 2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals. Honours were given to cyclists Wong Kam-po, Chan Chun-hing and Alex John Hunter, equestrian athletes Patrick Lam, Cheng Man-kit, Samantha Lam and Lai Jing-man, as well as triathlete Lee Chi-wo. As the largest multi-sport Games held in China, the National Games attracts top athletes from all over the country. Dr Eric Li, Chairman of the HKSI, appreciated the hard work and commitment of Hong Kong athletes at the Games and said, “The performances of Hong Kong athletes at this year’s National Games were excellent. They achieved the best-ever result for Hong Kong at the Games. I believe that they were motivated to give their best when competing against the strong competitors from mainland China. They are now in peak condition for the upcoming East Asian Games in December, which will be staged in Hong Kong for the first time. We look forward to more excellent results and breakthroughs for Hong Kong.” Mrs Margaret Leung, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive of Hang Seng Bank, said, "Hang Seng offers its heartfelt congratulations to Hong Kong’s athletes on achieving outstanding results at the 11th National Games. Organised by the HKSI in 1994 and sponsored by Hang Seng Bank since 1996, the Scheme has offers cash incentives to local athletes to encourage and recognise their outstanding performances at the Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games, the East Asian Games and the National Games.
