Announcement of New Chairman of the Hong Kong Sports Institute
The Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited (HKSI) is delighted to announce that Dr Lam Tai-fai SBS JP is appointed as the next Chairman of the HKSI Board, succeeding Mr Carlson Tong Ka-shing SBS JP, for a two-year term with effect from 1 April 2017.
Mr Tong, who will finish his term on 31 March 2017, showed his appreciation to his successor and said, “Dr Lam has deep understanding of the needs of athletes and elite sport sector in Hong Kong and a long collaboration with the HKSI. Not only has he been a valuable member of the Board from April 2009 to March 2015 and again from May 2016, but also an unwavering supporter of local athletes by offering flexible and integrated curriculum at his school, Lam Tai Fai College – one of the first schools in Hong Kong to join the HKSI’s Partnership School Programme. I am confident that Dr Lam, with his experienced leadership and passion for sports, is a perfect person to lead the HKSI forward.”
Dr Lam paid warm tribute to his predecessor. “I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Mr Tong for leading the HKSI through a lot of key milestones over the years, which include the completion of the HKSI Redevelopment Project as well as a number of new initiatives for enhancing the athletes’ dual career pathway opportunities, so as to championing the whole-person development of elite athletes in Hong Kong. Looking forward, I am committed to making sure that the HKSI will continue to deliver a world-class elite sport training and athlete support system for Hong Kong and driving forward the vision to assist Hong Kong athletes in scaling new heights and sustaining world-class results in the international sporting arena.”
