The Application of Heart Rate Variability in Monitoring Athlete Fatigue
By Ms. Tse Yuen Mei
The nervous system experiences alternations with strenuous exercise. Some studies found that this alternation could give some hints to the fatigue level of the nervous system. Monitoring this alternation in nervous system is therefore important to avoid overreaching and overtraining in athletes. However, practical and widely acceptable method for the monitoring is rare. Heart Rate Variability has been adopted as one of the methods for this purpose. We will therefore explore the application of this relatively new parameter in monitoring fatigue in athletes.
