Resistance Training and Nutrition
By Dr Parco Siu
Skeletal muscle is a highly plastic organ that adapts remarkably from exercise training. In response to chronic resistance training, skeletal muscle adapts by increasing muscle mass and contractile strength. Skeletal myofibers increase cell size and volume resulting in muscle hypertrophy when exposed to repetitive loading during resistive type of exercise training. There has been evidence suggesting that nutritional supplementation might serve as a potent modulator of the response to resistance training. In this talk, the mechanism of skeletal muscle adaptation from resistance training and the effects of nutrition and ergogenic supplement on the adaptive response of skeletal muscle will be discussed.
