Pulmonary muscle training
By Mr. Raymond So
The importance of training the skeletal muscle for strenuous competition is widely accepted. On the other hand, specific training to enhance the respiratory muscles is usually ignored. Respiratory muscles are working continuously and heavily during and after high intensity exercise, and usually result with the sensation of breathing discomfort (breathlessness). It has been indicated that the sensation of breathlessness might limit the maximal exercise performance. However, with specific strength training of the inspiratory muscles, the adverse feeling of breathlessness might be alleviated. The development and application of the Inspiratory Muscle Training will be introduced in this Seminar.
