- Fung Wing-see and Chan Pak-hei honoured as Outstanding Junior Athletes
Wushu performers Fung Wing-see and Chan Pak-hei were honoured with the HKSI Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards title for the 2nd quarter of 2007. Certificates of Merit were also presented to two squash players Fung Ngo-long and Liu Tsz-ling at the ceremony on 29 August.

|
Approaching 2008, interest in the Olympic Games and in elite sport is steadily mounting across Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI), the Governments delivery agent in the provision of high performance sports training for local elite athletes, is planning to keep everyone informed of the latest news and topics on elite sports development in Hong Kong as well as our elite athletes' preparations for the upcoming Major Games including the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2009 Hong Kong East Asian Games. HKSI will make its quarterly magazine Sports Excellence available to the wider Hong Kong Community in a newspaper supplement format. The new Sports Excellence has been scheduled for first release this December. We hope you enjoy the new format!

The 2007 International Council for Coach Education Global Coach Conference

The 2007 International Council for Coach Education Global Coach Conference was held on 31 August ¡V 3 September in Beijing, China. The theme for this year¡¦s conference was "Effective Coaching to Improve Athlete Performance". With support from the Hong Kong Coaching Committee (HKCC), Coaching Directors of 14 National Sports Associations attended the Conference.

Sport officials from Australia and South Africa visit HKSI

Steven Lawrence, Executive Director of the Western Australian Institute of Sport, Australia, and Bernice Butlion, Manager of the Eastern Cape Academy of Sport, South Africa paid a visit to the HKSI on 31 August. They toured the HKSI headquarters at Wu Kwai Sha and the Ma On Shan Sports Ground, and exchanged views with HKSI management in the area of elite training and athlete support.

Top Chinese sport official visits HKSI

Yu Zaiqing, Vice Minister of the General Administration of Sport of China, together with Wang Xiaolin, Secretary-General of the International Wushu Federation paid a visit to the HKSI. They toured the HKSI and athletic facilities in Ma On Shan and exchanged views with HKSI Chairman Dr Eric Li and Management on sports development in Hong Kong and the Mainland.

HKSI supports local cycling

| The "Silver Cyclist Statue", which was presented by President Hu Jintao during his visit to Hong Kong, to the Hong Kong Cycling Association for display during "The 2nd Tour of Hong Kong Shanghai" cycling competition and carnival on 29 July. The arrangement provided an invaluable opportunity for the public to view this commemorative souvenir that symbolises the appreciation and encouragement given by President Hu to local athletes in preparation of the 2008 Olympics. |
