Hong Kong-Shanghai Strength and Conditioning Symposium 2013

The Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) , Shanghai Sports Institute and NSCA-Shanghai will jointly organise the Hong Kong-Shanghai Strength and Conditioning Symposium on 17 - 18 December 2013 in Hong Kong, with the theme Considerations for strength training in young athletes. The Symposium provides an excellent interactive platform for sharing the latest strength and conditioning knowledge, theories and practices among all professionals in this industry, and elevates the professional standards and academic status of strength and conditioning training in Hong Kong and China.

Chan Ka-ho and Rebecca Chiu officiate at FOODSPORT launch ceremony
|
Long distance runner Chan Ka-ho and squash coach Rebecca Chiu were invited to officiate at the FOODSPORT launch ceremony on 6 October to help promote the Sustainable Community Development Project initiated by FOODSPORT. The project concept is to assemble the energy generated by participants in sport exercises. The calories spent are then calculated and converted by nutritionists into food units to raise food for those in need. |

In its second year, New Town Rider invited the East Asian Games medal-winning squash player Chan Ho-ling and wushu performer Cheng Chung-hang, along with other guests, to officiate at the kick-off ceremony on 12 October. Participants not only had a chance to experience the cycling culture in Sha Tin, but also helped raise fund for the Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society. For the first time the event started at 6 pm so that all riders could have a night ride around Sha Tin with a fluorescent ¡§green nose¡¨.

Hong Kong Jockey Club representatives visit HKSI
|
Six representatives from the Corporate Business Planning & Programme Management Division of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) visited the HKSI on 4 November. In addition to touring the training facilities, they met with Dr Trisha Leahy, Chief Excutive of HKSI, and Dr Raymond So, Director of Elite Training Science and Technology of the HKSI to gain an understanding of the Institute¡¦s operations and elite training in Hong Kong. They were impressed with the modern and extensive training facilities, and the quality and range of sport science and medicine services provided. Further possible opportunities for future collaboration will be discussed by HKSI and HKJC. |
The Hong Kong Institute of Education students visit HKSI

About 20 students from The Hong Kong Institute of Education visited the HKSI on 5 November. During the visit, the students gained an understanding of the role of HKSI in elite training and the range of sport science and medicine service provided. The visit would help raise the interest in sports science and elite training among local youth. |

University of Santo Tomas students visit HKSI
|
About 20 sports science students and physical therapy students from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines visited the HKSI on 19 - 20 November. The group received lectures and demonstrations presented by HKSI staff on the Institute¡¦s services including sports science, sports medicine, and strength and conditioning. They also toured the HKSI¡¦s elite sports training facilities. Through the visit, both institutes aimed to improve the professional standards in sport science and medicine in both the Philippines and Hong Kong. |
