Hong Kong Paralympians return home with flying colours
|
Hong Kong athletes achieved excellent results at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, clinching 5 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals. A welcome home reception was held at the HKSI on 26 September to share the joy and excitement with the Paralympians. At the reception, Dr Eric Li, HKSI Chairman, highly commended Hong Kong athletes on their hard work, and recognised their great strength of will in demonstrating their athletic prowess despite physical limitations. Patrick Ng Chak-lin, Chef de Mission of the Hong Kong, China Delegation, thanked the HKSI for its support to athletes with disability over the years and expressed his confidence in their ability to achieve better results in the future. After a recap of the athletesˇ¦ competition photos, Dr Trisha Leahy, HKSI Chief Executive, congratulated the Hong Kong team on their achievements. The event was rounded off by a sharing session from the athletes and coaches, followed by a souvenir presentation session to the Paralympians. |

Sport physiologists, sport nutritionists, sport biomechanists and sport psychologists may find this book valuable.

Overtraining athletes: personal journeys in sports
(SIC call no.:
GV 711.5 .R53 2008) |
Authored by Sean O. Richardson, Mark B. Andersen and Tony Morris, and published by Human Kinetics, this book helps readers understand the risks and prevention of overtraining. The book is written in a nonlinear structure - readers do not need to read from the beginning but can pick any chapter according to their interests. The content is divided into four parts: the first part reviews research which examines aspects of overtraining; the second part presents coachesˇ¦ and sports scientistsˇ¦ views on overtraining; the third part presents athletesˇ¦ experience of overtraining and authorsˇ¦ reflections on the cases; the final part introduces a comprehensive model to examine the effects of various risk factors on overtraining. This book is a good reference for athletes, coaches and sports scientists. |
