Wong Kam-po helps promote road safety measures in cycling |
Cycling has become increasingly popular in Hong Kong. In order to minimise the number of traffic accidents relating to cycling, Wong Kam-po has committed to assist the Road Safety Council in promoting awareness of proper road user behaviour among cyclists. Wong took part in a television video on the promotion of cycling safety with the vision of ¡§Zero Accidents on the Road, Hong Kong¡¦s Goal¡¨. The campaign will be broadcast at the end of June. |
Ko Lai-chak officiates an Olympic Torch Relay community celebration activity in Sha Tin |

Spreading the joy and excitement of the Olympic Torch Relay, table tennis athlete Ko Lai-chak, one of the torchbearers, was invited to officiate an Olympic Torch Relay community celebration activity at the New Town Plaza in Sha Tin. During the event, Ko shared how he felt about the honour of being a torchbearer and demonstrated the right way to hold the torch. |

The Beijing Olympics Torch Relay was conducted successfully in Hong Kong on 2 May. The route, passing through major landmarks and scenic spots, started at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui and finished at Golden Bauhinia Square, Wanchai. Midway distinctive spots included Tsing Ma Bridge, Shatin Rowing Centre (by dragon boat) and Shatin Racecourse (by equestrian athletes on horses). Among the 120 torchbearers, 28 of them were scholarship athletes of the HKSIL, they are (in relay order) Li Ching (table tennis), Ko Lai-chak (table tennis), Yip Pui-yin (badminton), Chiu Wing-yin (squash), Yu Chui-yee (wheelchair fencing), To Yu-hang (wushu), Wong Fai (shooting), Mak So-ning (triathlon), Yu Hiu-tung (tennis), Chan Yun-to (bodybuilding), Law Hiu-fung (rowing), Chan Kwok-ming (snooker), Chiu Chung-hei (table tennis), Yeung Chui-ling (fencing), Cheng Yuk-han (fencing), Sze Hang-yu (swimming), Tie Yana (table tennis), Koon Wai-chee (badminton), Lam Tak-kwan (disabled badminton), Mak Pui-hin (squash), Cheng Ka-ho (wushu), So Wa-wai (disabled athletics), Cheng Man-kit (equestrian), Lee Ka-man (rowing), Shek Wai-hung (gymnastics), Tsai Hiu-wai (swimming), Wang Chen (badminton) and Wong Kam-po (cycling). Hu Shao-ming, one of the directors of the HKSIL, was also a torchbearer. |
Philippine Sports Commission representatives visit HKSIL |
Fr. Vicente L. Uy, SVD, Executive Director of Philippine Sports Commission; and Estrella Decano, Administrative Officer of Philippine Center for Sports Medicine visited the HKSIL on 22 May. The delegation exchanged views with the HKSIL management on elite training and support services, and toured the HKSIL¡¦s elite sports training facilities at Wu Kwai Sha. |
