Hong Kong team wins 20 medals at the 7th National Games for the Handicapped

Congratulations to the Hong Kong team for winning 7 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze medals at the 7th National Games for the Handicapped held in Kunming,Yunnan, China. The team previously participated in 5 events in October last year, winning 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. The team participated in other 9 events at the Games in May this year, winning 6 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals.



Sprinter So Wa-wai (Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled) sets a new national record at the 7th National Games for the Handicapped

Congratulations to Hong Kong sprinter So Wa-wai (Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled) for setting a new national record in the men's 100m (T36) at the 7th National Games for the Handicapped held on 12-20 May in Kunming,Yunnan of China. So broke the national record 12.45 sec by 0.05 seconds setting a new 12.40 sec record.

Cycling team wins 4 medals at the Track Asia Cup

The Hong Kong cycling team won a silver and 3 bronze medals at the Track Asia Cup 2007 Japan Round held on 9 - 10 June in Iwaki, Fukushima of Japan.

This was the first time the Hong Kong team won a medal in the men's team pursuit, women's individual time trial and women's keirin in the competition.

Cyclist Steven Wong successfully defends his Asian BMX Championships title

Hong Kong cyclist Steven Wong won his first Asian BMX Championships title in 2006. Repeating his success in 2007, he won the 2nd Asian BMX Championships held on 22-25 May in Chon Buri, Thailand.



Cyclist Wong Kam-po wins a gold medal at the China National Road Race (Wuhan leg)

Hong Kong cyclist Wong Kam-po won a gold medal in the men's 167.2km individual road race at the China National Road Race (Wuhan leg) held on 9 - 12 June in Wuhan, China.



Fencer Chow Tsz-ki wins the first Grand Prix silver medal for Hong Kong

Hong Kong fencer Chow Tsz-ki won the first Grand Prix silver medal for Hong Kong in the women's sabre individual event at the Federation Internationale D'Escrime (FIE) Women's Sabre World Cup Grand Prix held on 1-3 June in Tianjin, China.



Squash player Chiu Wing-yin takes women's singles title at the Goshen Open

Hong Kong squash player Chiu Wing-yin captured the women's singles title at the Goshen Open held on 15-19 May in Goshen, Indiana, USA.



Squash players Chiu Wing-yin and Lau Siu-wai won the Crocodile HK Closed Squash Championships

Hong Kong squash player Chiu Wing-yin won her 12th women's championship title at the Crocodile HK Closed Squash Championships held on 21 May - June 2, fending off the strong challenge from Au Wing-chi, the Asian Junior Squash Championships girl's singles titlist.

Lau Siu-wai, aged 21, became the youngest champion of the competition after winning the men's championship title for the first time time.

Junior squash team wins 5 medals at the Milo All Star Junior Squash Championships

The Hong Kong junior squash team won 3 gold and 2 bronze medals at the Milo All Star Junior Squash Championships held on 31 May - 4 June in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Swimmer Sze Hang-yu wins a gold medal at the Bell Grand Prix

Hong Kong swimmer Sze Hang-yu won a gold medal in the women's 50m butterfly at the Bell Grand Prix held on 1-3 June in Vancouver, Canada.

The Hong Kong table tennis team won 2 bronze medals at the 2007 Liebherr World Table Tennis Championships held on 21-27 May in Zagreb, Croatia.

Windsurfer Ho Chi-ho wins a silver medal at the Breitling Regatta

The Hong Kong windsurfing athlete Ho Chi-ho won a silver medal in the men's RSX class at the Breitling Regatta held on 23-27 May in Medemblik, the Netherlands.

President Hu visits HKSI to encourage Hong Kong athletes

Accompanied by Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, President Hu Jintao visited the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) on 29 June. They were met by the President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, Hon Timothy Fok Tsun-ting and the Chairman of the HKSI, Dr Eric Li Ka-cheung.

President Hu met top local athletes including Wong Kam-po (cycling), Chan Ka-man (karatedo), Sze Hang-yu (swimming) and Chow Tsz-ki (fencing) while touring around the Fitness Training Centre. Afterwards, President Hu watched demonstrations by wheelchair fencers Yu Chui-yee and Chan Yui-chong, and table tennis players Li Ching and Ko Lai-chak. Then he enjoyed a game of table tennis with 13-year-old athlete Chiu Chung-hei.

President Hu praised the Hong Kong delegation for the record achievements made in the Doha Asian Games last year, and he encouraged athletes to continue their efforts to strive for glory for Hong Kong.

Before leaving, President Hu presented a silver cyclist statue and some 2008 Beijing Olympic Games souvenirs to the HKSI and the athletes respectively. Local athletes were greatly encouraged by President Hu's sincere concern for sports development in Hong Kong.
