Hong Kong delegation wins 40 medals at the 16th Asian Games

The Hong Kong delegation achieved their best-ever results at the Asian Games by setting a new Asian record in the Cycling (Track) Women¡¦s 500m Time Trial and winning a total of 40 medals, comprising 8 gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze medals.

The 16th Asian Games was held on 12 - 27 November in Guangzhou, China; a total of 395 athletes represented Hong Kong in 34 sports and 43 disciplines at the Games.

Hongkong Bank Foundation Continuing Coach Education Programme (CCEP)
A seminar on "Technical Support on Athletes¡¦ Physical Training and Injury Prevention" organised by the Hong Kong Coaching Committee was held on 16 November at the Olympic House. Professor Jiao Wei of the Beijing Sport University shared how technology assisted sports teams¡¦ physical training and injury prevention. Around 250 coaches attended the seminar.

The latest issue of HKSI publication Sports Excellence was published on 21 December as a supplement of Ming Pao Daily, bringing news of local elite sports and the work of the HKSI to the public. Wong Kam-po promotes Hong Kong Spirit of Dah Sing Life

Admiring the perseverance of cyclist Wong Kam-po, who has fully demonstrated the Hong Kong spirit of tenacity to fight until the end in his illustrious sporting career, Dah Sing Life has recently invited the veteran to promote its new ¡§Dah Sing Life 20th Anniversary¡¨ advertising campaign. The series was launched on 1 November on different channels including newspapers, magazines, MTR light boxes, bus bodies and the Internet, etc.


Wong Wan-yiu participates in World Vision charity event

Cyclist Wong Wan-yiu, who showed great perseverance and determination in winning a silver medal at the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games after encountering an accident during the cycling competition, has received a lot of positive attention in the local community. Following the conclusion of the Games, she was invited to participate in the kick-off ceremony of World Vision¡¦s child sponsorship programme on 5 December, where she shared her ¡§never-give-up¡¨ story with Hong Kong children. Wong also accepted the honorary title of ¡§You are my hero¡¨, selected by local children for being a good role model in their hearts.

Dick Lau invited as presenting guest of DAB sports day

With his healthy image as an elite athlete, squash player Lau Siu-wai was invited as a presenting guest at the sports day of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB) on 5 December, which aimed to promote the benefits of exercise and enhance public interest in sports.

ACSM¡¦s health-related physical fitness assessment manual (third edition)

Published by the American College of Sports Medicine in 2010 and edited by Leonard A. Kaminsky, the manual shows how to conduct assessments appropriately for body composition, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and cardiorespiratory fitness. The new edition includes updated references, more diagrams and pictures, and new material on physical activity assessments, considerations for medication usage, and common measurement errors. It is a useful reference to all sport professionals.
