Hongkong Bank Foundation Continuing Coach Education Programme

The seminar on "The Importance of Team Management in Sportsˇ¨ was organised by the Hong Kong Coaching Committee on 5 October at the Heung Yee Kuk Building. Coach Dick Leung, winner of Coach of the Year Awards (Junior athletes, team event) at the Hongkong Bank Foundation Coaching Awards 2011, shared his experience and strategies with more than 300 coaches on how to enhance sporting performance by maintaining the stability of young athletesˇ¦ good performance, elevating their initiative during competition, and strengthening their team spirits.
Another seminar on "Child Protection in Sports Organisationsˇ¨ was held on 30 October at the Heung Yee Kuk Building. Mr. Nick Slinn, Senior Consultant England, Child Protection in Sport Unit, National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, shared his experience with 180 coaches and administrators on the provision of child protection advice to sports organisations to ensure that young athletes are offered a safe training environment and safeguarded from harm. |

The annual International Scientific Symposium organised by the HKSI will be held on 15 - 16 March 2013 (Friday and Saturday) at the HKSI, with the aim to examine, exchange ideas and stimulate discussion on the development and application of technologies in enhancing sports performance.

Five elite athletes receive ELLE Style Awards

In celebration of its 25th anniversary, ELLE Hong Kong magazine identified five elite athletes and paid tribute to their perseverance in pursuing sporting excellence by presenting them with the ˇ§ELLE Sports Awardˇ¨. The recipients included cyclist Lee Wai-sze, shuttler Yip Pui-yin, gymnast Wong Hiu-ying, Paralympic athletes Yu Chui-yee and So Wa-wai. The presentation ceremony was held on 7 November, where three of the athletes ˇV Lee, Yip and So ˇV received the award in person. |

The book gives an overview of sports medicine from assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation post injury to injury prevention. There are chapters on training and conditioning, nutrition, medications and special concerns to various illnesses that would contribute to sport injury management. This book comes with photographs, drawings, and 60 narrated video-clips in the accompanying DVD, highlighting various tests and exercise demonstrations. This easy-to-read reference is tremendously useful to clinicians, such as sports medicine practitioners, physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, and sports masseurs, as well as athletes. |

It comes with photo illustrations throughout the book, supplemented with a high quality complimentary DVD, to visually demonstrate the mentioned motions to the readers. There are three sections to this book: part one is an overview of historical information, technical rules and regulations; part two provides training advice and technique-based exercise plans, as well as diet recommendations for fencers; part three focuses on talent identification and research findings in fencing. It is a practical guide for saber fencers and fencing coaches, especially in evaluating their training. |
