Hong Kong team (Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped) wins 23 medals at the 3rd INAS Global Games

The Hong Kong team (Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped) won 10 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze medals at the 3rd INAS Global Games held on 26 September - 4 October in Liguria, Italy.

Chan King-yin named JMEN Men of 2011

Last year, table tennis player Li Ching was awarded :Men of 2010; by JMEN; this year, retired windsurfer Chan King-yin was also named :Men of 2011; in recognition of his contribution to sports over the years. He thanked for all the support and recognition from the community to local athletes during the awards presentation ceremony held on 6 September.

Two athletes conferred Honorary Fellowship of City University of Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) would like to congratulate cycling athlete Wong Kam-po and disabled equestrian rider Nelson Yip Siu-hong on being conferred Honorary Fellowship of City University of Hong Kong on 22 September in recognition of their eminent contribution to local sports development. Over the years, Wong has won numerous medals and honours for Hong Kong in major international cycling competitions. He is a three-time champion of the men・s individual road race at the National Games; the first Chinese champion of the 15km scratch race, UCI Track World Championships in 2007; and a two-time champion of men・s individual road race at the Asian Games. In 2010, he was also conferred Honorary Fellowship of the Hong Kong Institute of Education. Yip has also represented Hong Kong in many international competitions, including the Paralympic Games in 2008, and his achievements have been well recognised.

Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education representatives visit HKSI

Led by Executive Director Dr Stephen Tommis, a delegation from the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education visited the HKSI on 16 September, where they exchanged views with the HKSI management in athlete education support, and toured the HKSI・s facilities.

HKSI cooperates with Sing Tao S-file to promote elite training support

To promote the HKSI・s broad spectrum of scientific support for elite training and raise public awareness of local elite athletes, the HKSI has cooperated with Sing Tao Daily・s student paper S-file again to publish information on the elite training support offered by the HKSI on every other Thursday starting from September. Apart from articles contributed by HKSI professionals on such sports-related topics as sports science, sports medicine, and strength and conditioning, the column also includes every month an interview with elite athletes from different elite sports to share on their training life. Athletes featured to date include fencers Au Sin-ying and Au Yeung Wai-sum, and table tennis players Doo Hoi-kem and Hung Ka-tak.
