- Six juniors named as HKSI¡¦s Outstanding Athletes
Fung Wai-yee and Lai Chun-ho (athletics), Choi Ki-ho (cycling), Au Chun-ming and Ho Ka-po (squash), and Yang Zijun (tennis) were honoured with the HKSI Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards title for the second quarter of 2008. Certificates of Merit were also presented to Cheung Sik-lui and Lam Hin-wai (fencing), and Shek Wai-hung (gymnastics) at the ceremony on 1 September.

Hongkong Bank Foundation Coach Accreditation Programme - Accredited Coach Renewal Scheme (ACRS) implemented in September
|
To maintain the quality of coaches and provide accredited coaches with a clear path in aspiration for higher skill levels, the Hong Kong Coaching Committee (HKCC) has launched the new ACRS in September. Upon completion and passing of the Sports-General Theory (Part A) Course, accredited coaches will be issued with a "Coach Accreditation Card" for a validity of four years. In order to maintain a valid "accreditation" status with the HKCC, accredited coaches are required to take part in continuing coach activities within the four years to accumulate the required hours for renewal. All accredited coaches will receive their first "Coach Accreditation Card" and "Coach Logbook" free of charge.

Teen Power: athletes' wallpaper calendars and postcards
|
To arouse the younger generation¡¦s interest in local elite sports development, the HKSI has collaborated with RTHK Teen Power to produce a series of electronic monthly wallpaper calendars and a set of 12 postcards, which showcase 15 elite athletes and two athletes with disability as well as RTHK¡¦s web-Js. The wallpaper calendars for July to September, featuring athletes Lee Wai-sze (cycling), Au Hoi-shun (swimming), So Wa-wai (athletics ¡V Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled) and Lai Wai-ling (table tennis ¡V Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped), are now available for downloading. The postcard set will be sent to the sporting community and athletes soon.

Strength ball training (2nd edition)

Written by Lorne Goldenberg and Peter Twist and published by Human Kinetics in 2007, the book shows how strength, power, coordination, balance and core stability can be developed through medicine ball and stability ball exercises. The authors have worked as strength and conditioning coaches for hockey and football athletes and national teams in Canada. This book targets at athletes, fitness enthusiasts and professionals. A DVD that shows how to perform the most complex and advanced exercises is enclosed with the second edition. This book presents more than 60 exercises with each exercise described in three stages ¡V setup, movement and finish. Each exercise is clearly illustrated by two large photos. As a whole this book is a comprehensive reference to strength ball training. |
