School Sports Programme Coordinator Pilot Scheme

A briefing of the School Sports Programme Coordinator (SSPC) Pilot Scheme was held on 11 July at the HKSI, where principals and teachers of the participating schools were invited to gain a better understanding of the scheme and its implementation. The school representatives also met their assigned SSPCs during a tour of the facilities at the HKSI. Organised by the Home Affairs Bureau, and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and co-organised by the Education Bureau and the HKSI, the scheme recruited retired athletes to work in subsidised secondary schools as SSPCs, aiming to promote sports culture in the schools with the athletesˇ¦ knowledge and skills in sports, and provide them with more job opportunities. The first batch of SSPCs, comprising a total of nine retired athletes, reported duty to their schools in August. The HKSI has arranged a series of pre-vocational training to enhance their understanding of their assigned schools and the sports development in Hong Kong, and also strengthen their leadership, communication skills and other administrative-related skills. In addition, education subsidies would be provided for their further study needs, and a mentorship support is offered to them in cooperation with the Chinese University of Hong Kong. After completion of the scheme, certificates of completion will be awarded to the SSPCs.

Exercise testing and prescription lab manual
(SIC call no.: RC683.5 .E94 A24 2011)
This manual is a comprehensive collection of practical knowledge and skills of standardised health and fitness related tests that are required for the certification as a Health Fitness Specialist (HFS) accredited by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). All tests were categorised into three sections: pretest responsibilities, exercise testing techniques and exercise prescription. Each test is designed to be carried out in the same easy to follow format with its purpose, materials required, and procedures. Background information and reference for each test is provided for further exploration. This manual is not only a teaching guide for the ACSM Certified HFS certification, but also a valuable practical reference for those who are preparing other personal trainer certification by other accredited organisations.
