Ho Siu-in and Kong Man-wai (fencing), Tang Chiu-mang and Wong Jing (rowing), Li Ching-wan (table tennis), and Fung Wing-see (wushu) were honoured with the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards title for the fourth quarter of 2008. Certificates of Merit were also presented at the ceremony on 9 March to four other athletes as a recognition of their excellent performances.

Hongkong Bank Foundation Continuing Coach Education Programme (CCEP)

A seminar on "Improving athletes' endurance through nutritional strategies" organised by the Hong Kong Coaching Committee was held on 25 March at the HKSI and attended by about 130 coaches. Professor Stephen Wong from the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education of The Chinese University of Hong Kong explained how coaches could develop dietary strategies to improve the endurance of athletes in training and competitions.

Coaches nominated for prestigious awards
|
Over 120 shortlisted nominations from National Sports Associations and community sports clubs were received for the 2008 Hongkong Bank Foundation Coaching Awards. The Awards Scheme is the only territory-wide programme that recognises the contributions of coaches, from community to elite level. Awards in six categories of excellence will be conferred at the Awards Presentation Ceremony to be held on 19 April at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. CEO of Singapore Sports Council visits HKSI

Oon Jin-teik, Chief Executive Officer and Yong Ser-joo, Assistant Director (China Relations) of the Singapore Sports Council, visited the HKSI on 13 March. They exchanged views with the HKSI management on elite training and support services, and toured the HKSI's elite sports training facilities at its temporary headquarters in Wu Kai Sha. |

The book was published by Meyer & Meyer Sport in 2007 and written by Ed McNeely and David Sandler. Ed McNeely is a certified strength trainer and physiologist, while David Sandler is assistant professor of strength conditioning. The book presents a complete program for improving athletic power. Contents offer complete plyometrics drills demonstration for upper and lower body, trunk and full body; and specific programs for 16 different sports, such as football, rugby, and racquet sports. This book suits athletes who are keen to improve their agility and power. |
