Junior badminton team wins 3 medals at the Dutch Junior International

The Hong Kong junior badminton team won 1 silver and 2 bronze medals at the Dutch Junior International held on 27 February - 2 March in Haarlem, Netherlands.

The Hongkong Bank Foundation Continuing Coach Education Programme (CCEP)

A CCEP seminar on ¡§Acupressure¡¨ organised by the Hong Kong Coaching Committee was held on 29 March at the Olympic House. Xu Zheng-zheng, HKSI Chinese Medicine Coordinator, introduced common injuries on legs and lower back. More than 110 coaches attended.

Coaches nominated for prestigious awards

Over 120 nominations were received from National Sports Associations and community sports clubs for the 2007 Hongkong Bank Foundation Coaching Awards. The Awards Scheme is the only territory-wide programme that recognises the contributions of coaches, who are the driving force behind every successful athlete in the sporting arena. Awards in six categories of excellence will be conferred at the Awards Presentation Ceremony to be held on 20 April at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. HKSI quarterly magazine Sports Excellence Volume 2 published

The HKSI quarterly magazine Sports Excellence Volume 2 was published on 4 March as a supplement of Ming Pao Daily. The new issue continues to bring news of local elite sports and the work of the HKSI to the public.

Readers are also welcome to browse the online edition (Chinese only) available in the HKSI website.

Volume 3 of Sports Excellence will be published in June.



Li Ching and Yu Chui-yee speak at corporate functions

Two elite athletes widely recognised by the community for their achievements, were invited to speak at corporate functions. Table tennis athlete Li Ching was invited to speak at the ¡§2008 Annual Agency Meeting¡¨ organised by Integrity Agency of Prudential Assurance. He shared his sporting life and success stories with the participants. Having delivered a speech for Fortis Insurance Asia in February, wheelchair fencer Yu Chui-yee was also invited to speak at the American International Assurance Company¡¦s ¡§Olympic Champion Round Table Kick-off Meeting¡¨ on 10 March. She shared key factors of being an elite performer with over 600 top insurance agents.

Elite athletes are invited to promote the Derby

The Hong Kong Jockey Club recently invited seven elite athletes to promote its annual event ¡§Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby 2008¡¨ with TV and other media advertising. Cyclist Wong Kam-po was the Derby Ambassador and the other six athletes were table tennis duo Ko Lai-chak and Li Ching, badminton athlete Wang Chen and Yip Pui-yin, squash athlete Chiu Wing-yin and swimmer Sze Hang-yu.

Sports Authority of Thailand representatives visit HKSI

A nine-member delegation from the Sports Authority of Thailand visited the HKSI on 17 March. The delegation exchanged views with the HKSI management on elite training and support services, and toured the HKSI's elite sports training facilities at Wu Kwai Sha.
