International Scientific Symposium ¡V
Biomechanics and skill acquisition in sports: performance enhancement and injury prevention

The impact of the science of biomechanics in the sports domain is increasingly evident, yet the understanding and thus the application of this knowledge in elite performance enhancement and sport injury prevention is limited. This annual event, organised by the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI), will bring together international and local experts to share their knowledge and experience in the area. The Symposium will be held on 16 – 17 April 2010 (Friday and Saturday) at the HKSI.

Chief of Sports Development Group and Singapore Sports Institute visits HKSI
Robert P Gambardella, Chief of Sports Development Group and Singapore Sports Institute, Singapore Sports Council and one of the guest speakers of the 17th Hongkong Bank Foundation Elite Coaches Seminar, visited the HKSI on 25 January 2010, where he exchanged views with the HKSI management on elite training and support services, and toured the HKSI¡¦s elite sports training facilities at its temporary headquarters in Wu Kai Sha.

Representatives from Nanjing Sport Institute visits HKSI
Four representatives from the Nanjing Sport Institute visited the HKSI on 29 January 2010. They exchanged views with the HKSI management and sports science and medicine professionals on elite training and support services, and toured the HKSI's elite sports training facilities at its temporary headquarters in Wu Kai Sha as well as the construction site of HKSI at Fo Tan. After the tour, they were also invited to attend the HKSI Staff Annual Dinner.

The book is published by A & C Black in 2007 and authored by Tim Paine, an experienced sports massage therapist and founder of Sports Therapy UK. The second edition has been totally updated and illustrated with full colour photos for demonstrations. Content in this book is easy to read and comprehensive, including principles and techniques of massage; injury management and post-massage care and practical guidance for particular sport events. This is an informative handbook for sports therapy students and people who want to know more about sports massage.
